The Archives holds two distinct collections related to Roy Lee Honeycutt, Jr. (October 30, 1926-December 21, 2004), the eighth president of Southern Seminary, serving from 1982 until retirement in 1993.
The Roy L. Honeycutt Presidential Records consist of correspondence, memoranda, reports, manuscripts and other records that were created, collected and maintained by the Office of the President of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary during Honeycutt’s administration. These records primarily document the administrative actions of President Honeycutt, the interaction of the president with institutional offices and external bodies, and his response to theological and denominational controversies in the Southern Baptist Convention. This collection is currently Restricted Access, accessible only with permission from the Office of the President, but Archives has prepared an online finding aid.
The Roy L. Honeycutt Papers consist of sermons, speeches, lecture notes, biblical notes, manuscripts and other material created and collected by Honeycutt during his career and service as a Baptist pastor, Old Testament Scholar, and seminary administrator. Material in this collection documents Honeycutt’s preaching and teaching in Baptist churches, his academic career as an Old Testament scholar and professor at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and speeches delivered as president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. These are the personal papers that he created and collected throughout his life. This collection is open for research, and Archives has prepared an online finding aid.
